Let's Talk About Lust! April 3, 2020
Updated: Apr 3, 2020
Now that I have your attention...the word lust may have taken your mind immediately to sex. Most people tie lust with sex. However, lust comes in many forms. For instance, you can lust after material possessions. Remember that car you dreamed of? Or the money you would received as an inheritance or lottery winning? Drugs, cigarettes, power, are all items that can be lusted after. Yea, we are all guilty of it in one form or another. But did you know that all lust is not bad? Lust or strong desire for sexual intimacy within marriage is not only natural, it is blessed. Unfortunately we somethings go beyond that "within marriage" part we suffer the consequences. Certainly Christians are no exception to falling into this trap. In our day couples who are professed Christian freely cohabitate and feel little or no remorse about it. Consequently when the world looks at church members and sees no difference between their life and the church member....well you can understand why the church is meaningless to them. So what do we do? First, practice the 5 second rule. Say no, no, no, repeatedly to the temptation. We can withstand anything if we distract, dig-in and refuse to give in. Second, prepare yourself in advance, 1 Peter 1:13-15 says, "...prepare your minds for action...do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance...be holy in all your conduct." Don't depend only on your will power. Depend on God's power. You can succeed!
